A careful look at short-term urolithin A safety data, evidence gaps, combination formulas and when to seek medical advice.
Urolithin A Side Effects and Safety: What Human Trials Show

Reviewed August 7, 2026. Short human trials suggest that urolithin A was generally well tolerated in the populations studied, but the evidence base is still small. “Well tolerated in a trial” is not the same as risk-free for every person, and long-term safety data are limited.

What clinical trials reported

A four-month randomized trial in 66 adults ages 65 to 90 compared 1,000 mg of urolithin A daily with placebo. Researchers reported no statistical difference in adverse events between groups. Another four-month randomized study tested 500 mg and 1,000 mg daily in 88 middle-aged adults. These studies provide useful short-term information, but they were not large enough to rule out uncommon effects.

Important evidence gaps

  • Long-term use beyond the durations studied is not well established.
  • Evidence is limited for pregnancy, breastfeeding, children and people with significant liver, kidney or other medical conditions.
  • Trial results for isolated urolithin A do not establish the safety of every multi-ingredient gummy or capsule.
  • Commercial trials cited here included manufacturer sponsorship or author relationships, so independent replication is valuable.

Interactions and combination formulas

Urolithin A products may also contain CoQ10, resveratrol, botanicals, sweeteners or other ingredients. Each ingredient can have its own precautions and possible medication interactions. Bring the complete Supplement Facts panel—not only the front-label name—to a pharmacist or healthcare professional. This is especially important if you use anticoagulants, blood-pressure medicine, diabetes medicine or multiple supplements.

When to stop and seek help

Stop using a new supplement and seek urgent care for trouble breathing, facial or throat swelling, fainting or another severe reaction. Contact a healthcare professional for persistent digestive symptoms, rash, unusual bleeding, marked dizziness or any symptom that concerns you. Do not use a supplement to self-treat unexplained weakness or fatigue.
